Charitable organisation

The Stichting Wings for Aid Foundation has been granted the Dutch ‘ANBI’ status: ‘Algemeen Nut Beogende Instelling’, a charitable organisation. Profits from income are re-invested in the statutory purpose of the organisation, namely ‘Promoting reaching people in need using innovative transport concepts’. The postal address of the Foundation (RSIN / fiscal number 8557.76.122) is Larenseweg 172, 1223AA Hilversum, The Netherlands and can also be reached via e-mail info @ wingsforaid.org or phone +31 85 760 3777.

Established in 2015

The Foundation was established on 2nd December 2015 by Barry Koperberg, the current General Manager. The activities are overseen by a Board of four members with a background in innovation, governance and finance: M. (Maarten) van Ginkel (Chair), J. (Jan-Hendrik) Schretlen (Secretary/Treasurer), Prof. G. (Gert) van Dijk and B. (Barry) Koperberg (Founder). All members are on a rotation scheme, except for the Founder, who holds the position for life. The Founder does not hold special voting rights. Board members receive a ‘lump-sum’ remuneration of € 1.500 per year.

A mission-first coalition

Given the complexity of the task, the Foundation has consistently relied on partnerships instead of internal staff. Relations have been established with a wide array of private and public organisations. They share a culture of ‘Mission-First’ and agree on contractual conditions for specific projects and project activities. Although the members of this ‘coalition of the willing’ hold pole positions to work on new projects, contract conditions are exposed to market forces and hourly rates are subject to screening by an independent agency.

IP licensed to Cargo Internet Development

Key staff members, including the General Manager, are employed or contracted by Cargo Internet Development B.V., a Private Limited company under Dutch law. This company may be seen as the ‘commercial and operational’ branch of Wings For Aid, anticipating the actual and sustained application of the developed concepts in the field. The Intellectual Property that has resulted from the Foundation’s activities, like two patents on the cardboard delivery box, are therefore held by the Foundation and given in licence to Cargo Internet Development. Rhenus Air & Ocean, a logistics company, has taken a strategic holding in the company.
